In relation to child protection we are governed by international and local laws. Within the international regulations the most important is the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and all our principles as a school are in accordance with this international treaty. In Spain, the law for the protection of children is Organic Law 8/2021, of June 4, on the comprehensive protection of children and adolescents against violence, which sets out the rights of children and adolescents against violence, their right to information and counseling, to be heard and to comprehensive care. It also regulates the duty to report situations of violence.

It establishes a generic duty, which affects all citizens, to report immediately to the competent authority the existence of signs of violence against children or adolescents, and in a more demanding way to other groups such as schools, which are entrusted with the care, teaching and protection of minors. Decree 210/2018, of November 20 regulates the procedure for action in situations of risk and neglect of children and adolescents in Andalusia. Schools must have a Coexistence Plan that ensures the protection of children.

EducoMontessori International School has a strong child protection policy that establishes definitions, clear procedures for action, indicators for detecting minors at risk, external support services and preventive actions. It also has a Child Protection Commission. All teachers are trained in these child protection policies. The school’s hiring policy is divided into clear phases in which important information regarding vocation, proactivity for the physical and emotional well-being of the child is extracted. References and a certificate of sexual offenses are always requested at these stages. All persons attending the center to perform any professional action, internship or volunteer work adhere to the code of conduct required by our Center. Our school is a place of Peace, the main value and objective of the Montessori pedagogy we follow.

The formation of Montessori Guide, involves a strong personal work in positive discipline, mediation and conflict resolution, understanding, empathy and observation of the real and deep needs of children and their manifestations. Conflicts between children are part of their natural development, however, it is the way in which they are shown tools to manage situations or emotions and resolve them peacefully, which makes the difference in their development and that is a strength in EducoMontessori that children show by transferring to other contexts of their present and future life. That is why, beyond the legal responsibility set by the regulations, the entire EducoMontessori team has a very strong personal and professional responsibility towards peace, safety and protection of children.
